Family Dispute Resolution

At Mediation Victoria, our priority is to assist people to work through their differences without having to go to court. This process is time efficient, less stressful and much less costly than litigation proceedings.

The Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) process involves one of our accredited FDR Practitioners meeting with each person individually to allow each party to discuss what they hope to achieve from FDR and to determine whether FDR is the right process for the specific situation. We will also use this time to give you information on the process, suggest appropriate referrals and help prepare the parties for FDR.

Following the individual meetings, FDR usually occurs through a joint session where each party will have the opportunity to communicate their needs, wants, concerns and ideas. The joint session can be done either with the parties in the same room or separate rooms and with or without the presence of lawyers. We also do child-inclusive mediation, where appropriate.

We will then help you identify the key issues, explore a variety of options that are available and, together, tailor a solution that is acceptable to everyone and meets the family’s needs.

Mediation Victoria can help you in a number of areas including:

  • post-separation parenting arrangements;
  • preparation of parenting plans;
  • property settlement – the division of assets and liabilities;
  • child support issues and developing child support agreements;
  • spousal maintenance;
  • isolated issues such as overseas travel and schooling; and
  • strategies for ongoing communication and managing changing family dynamics.

At Mediation Victoria we are passionate about creating outcomes that encourage and support family well-being.
